About Tannoy
Over 80 Years of Audio Invention
Few companies' products have such a profound impact on our lives that their names enter the dictionary as generic descriptions for their inventions. There are notable exceptions such as Biro, for its ballpoint pen and Hoover for its vacuum cleaner. But in the audio field, Tannoy stands alone for its success in developing early public address systems and then continuing its reputation for pioneering audio solutions. The word Tannoy is synonymous with sound, appearing in the dictionary as: 'a communications system with loudspeakers, used for making announcements in public buildings'. The phrase "Over the Tannoy" is universally used to describe a PA announcement.

"For many, the word Tannoy is synonymous with public address"
Tannoy is one of the oldest and most prestigious audio brands in the world, having been founded as the Tulsemere Manufacturing Company back in 1926. The name originates from a solid-state rectifier invented by company founder, Guy Fountain, made from an alloy or mixture of Tantalum and Lead. This Tantalum-Lead Alloy was the basis of the now world famous brand name of Tannoy.

Revolution XT 6
The Revolution XT 6 is a mid-size stand or bookshelf mounted loudspeaker that represents a ‘purist’ Tannoy configuration. Using a single Omnimagnet Dual Concentric driver, the XT 6 delivers pure point-source articulation and realises the additional smoothness and bass extension of the new driver design. Combining a 150mm (6.00”) multi-fibre cone with a 25mm Linear PEI dome and benefitting from the Torus-Ogive waveguide the Revolution XT 6 driver is coupled with a crossover using low loss laminated core inductors and audiophile components throughout.

The 10.8 litre cabinet has Revolution XT’s signature trapezoid shape and is uniquely fitted with a miniature plinth in keeping with the larger floorstanding models. The plinth serves to add low-down mass to the design, affording highly stable placement on stands or shelves for the most accurate acoustic reproduction. Heavily constructed and extensively braced, the cabinet has exceptionally low colouration further enhancing its ability to communicate nuances and emotion of music. The Revolution XT 6 is an incredibly accurate mini-monitor for those who appreciate music presented with utmost detail and texture.

Available in Medium Oak or Dark Walnut real wood veneer, the Revolution XT 6 sets the standard for fit and finish for stand mount loudspeakers at the price. The precisely engineered angle of the ‘waveguide’ formed between cabinet and plinth encourages LF energy to disperse forward into the room, making closer-to-wall placement of the speaker than is typically possible without major detrimental effect on sound quality. The result is tight and articulate bass with exceptional power and extension down to 34Hz. With an overall loudspeaker efficiency of 91dB/watt and 400Watt peak power handling, the Revolution XT 8F is nothing short of breath-taking in its dynamics and realism.

Each Revolution XT 8F cabinet is offered in Medium Oak or Dark Walnut real wood veneer, hand finished to the same exacting standards that Tannoy demands of it premium models and world-renowned Prestige series. Definition Subwoofer is designed and engineered with Tannoy’s fundamental principles of precision and articulation at its heart.

At the heart of the Definition Subwoofer is a cutting edge 1000Watt Class D amplifier with high speed switch mode power supply. Boasting exceptionally low Total Harmonic Distortion (less than 0.05%) this amplifier delivers massive dynamic power to control the twin metal-cone LF drivers. The amplifier module is mated to a powerful Digital Signal Processing (DSP) engine that offers user controls entirely in the digital domain for the most accurate set-up and LF response. A multifunction rotary control device and LCD display are mounted on the front panel for simple user control.

To handle the extreme power, the Definition Subwoofer uses two 300mm (12inch) aluminium cone drivers arranged as an opposing pair and mounted either side of the ply-wood cabinet. After extensive testing aluminium drivers were specified for their true pistonic motion at high levels and good heat transfer properties allowing them to be driven very hard for extended periods of time. The drivers’ dies cast aluminium chassis has been designed to afford maximum driver venting to maximise excursion.

The substantial subwoofer cabinet is finely constructed from Tannoy’s signature birch-ply laminate sourced from cooler, slowing growing regions. Constructed of 25mm thick laminate, the cabinet uses a mix of flat and curved panels to improve rigidity as well as disperse internal reflections and standing waves. Definition Subwoofer offers a flexible suit of connections allowing one or more subs to be connected in the system and compatibility with both phono RCA and balanced XLR signals.

Autograph Mini
The Autograph Mini is a scaled-down but authentic version of a loudspeaker that was famous throughout the audio world over sixty years ago, the Tannoy Autograph. While the original Autograph’s corner-shaped cabinet was over 1.5m tall, the Autograph min is an exquisite scale replica just 34.5cm (13.6o”) in height. Its diminutive size and accurately detailed finish produce a modern day classic that will bring a sense of timeless craftsmanship to even the most contemporary surroundings.

Remaining true to the cabinet build and finish quality of the original, the Autograph Mini incorporates a 100 mm (4.00”) Dual Concentric™ driver. Combining wide bandwidth technology, a heavy cast alloy frame and multi fibre paper pulp cone, this miniature Dual performs with subtlety, stunning detail and expansive imaging. Its titanium diaphragm high frequency unit is positioned on the same axis as the bass section and fitted with a neodymium magnet system to deliver a smooth response up to an incredible 54kHz.

Ensuring complete signal path integrity, 99.99% high purity silver cable is used to connect the tweeter to the system’s minimalist crossover network. This thoroughbred audiophile component includes low loss inductors and specially damped audio grade capacitors. Like the original and all Tannoy Prestige Series loudspeakers, the Autograph Mini’s hexagonal cabinet is finely constructed from the finest birch wood ply and finished with hardwood trim. The authentic oatmeal coloured grille cloth matches that of its 1954 designed forbear.
